A Murfreesboro, TN native, Dr. Grimes came to CRC in summer 2021. He and his wife; KristyAnn, met at the church of Christ campus ministry at Middle Tennessee State University. Dr. Grimes earned all of his degrees from MTSU. After graduating with his bachelor’s, he began his master’s degree and teaching at the university level. After their wedding, he graduated with his master’s and earned his doctorate in 2021.

Dr. Grimes has a range of research experiences in thermal and invasion ecology, evolution, cancer genetics, bioinformatics, biochemistry, research-based instructional practices, and teacher training and development. His teaching experiences cover a broad spectrum of biology lecture and lab courses for majors and non-majors at both religious and secular institutions, as well as courses aimed at secondary teacher training in mathematics and science. He also has experience as a laboratory management intern at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN; and curriculum development in higher education for both upper-division biology and teacher education courses. 

Grimes’ recently submitted part of his dissertation to the National Journal of Research in Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education to be published.  The publication, titled “Conceptions of Disciplinary Anxiety Across Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Contexts: A Critical and Theoretical Synthesis” was awarded a silver medal.

Zach and KristyAnn have one son, Greyson. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and reading.
