Abstract

Confused seems like an apt term to use for our world today doesn’t it? The cultural zeitgeist surrounding gender and sex seems to be getting louder and louder, and as a result people are left more and more confused. What does it mean to be a man? What are men called to be or expected to be? With these questions swirling in the heads of men everywhere, there seems to be no more pertinent time than now for the church to speak boldly the truth that God’s word speaks into this present confusion. In this session we want to tackle this confusion head on and examine what Biblical masculinity looks like. Not only do we seek to cut through the confusion and define masculinity from a Biblical perspective, we also want to consider how we stand on a foundation of truth that runs counter to the cultural norm. Using 2 John as a template, we’ll address the following: “Spotting the Lies That Confuse”- (2 John 8) “Keeping Pace with Truth” – (2 John 9), and “Shutting the Door on Lies” – (2 John 10-11).
