His academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree from Freed Hardeman University and a Master’s of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from Harding School of Theology. HIs preaching ministry in Tennessee congregations in Linden, Troy, Crossville, and Dyersburg churches of Christ covered 30 years. Dr. Burse’s leadership at NPFC is informed by a deep commitment to community service and the spiritual and emotional development of children.

Family is the heart of Dr. Burse’s life, shared with his wife Kim since 1981. They have two
children, Dr. Jessica Burse Todd, a dentist, and Jordan Burse (an integral part of the NPFC
team), and their beloved grandsons John and Luke Todd. Dr. Burse’s life outside of ministry is filled with joys like fishing or riding the tractor or RTV with his grandsons, following UT football and basketball, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and participating in Grandparent’s Day and other NPFC children’s events.

Dr. Burse, son of Delores Burse and the late Glen Burse, balances his NPFC leadership with
preaching appointments and advocating for the ministry. Inspired by his favorite scripture,
Proverbs 3:5-6, his faith-driven efforts extend globally, including numerous mission trips to
Guyana, South America, to engage in community and children’s ministry at Hope Children’s
Home in Enmore, Guyana. His life’s work, deeply rooted in faith and family, demonstrates a
profound commitment to nurturing and advocating for children’s well-being and spiritual growth.

Abstract

John explicitly states that his first letter is intended for believers in Jesus to know that
they have eternal life. He declares this confidence is available for all believers, not just
those who claim special insight as some did in the first century. John recognizes that in
order to have a confident knowledge of salvation, we must have assurance that our sins
are forgiven and that our relationship with God is secure. John anchors the knowledge
and assurance of forgiveness in the sacrifice of Jesus, God’s Son, and boldly declares
that the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. This cleansing power of the blood of
Jesus is continually effective! John does, however, note that confidence in the continual
cleansing of Jesus’ blood is for those who are walking in the light.
