Dr. Spencer Furby                                                                                “The Legacy of John”

Bio

Spencer Furby grew up in Fredericktown, MO and attended church at Flat River Church of Christ when Paul McFadden and Tim Wooldridge were recruiting in the 1980s.  Yes, 1980s.  That is when he first learned about Crowley’s Ridge College.  He attended CRC from 1990 to 1992 before moving on to Freed-Hardeman University and Harding Graduate school to pursue Bible degrees there.  He married Melissa Reddick of Paragould after meeting her at Burger King while studying Greek flash cards for Mr. Hale’s class.  The free refills were the draw!  In 1995 they began working in Kennett, MO where they stayed over 20 years and had two kids, Noah and Abby.  Then in 2016 they moved to Jonesboro to be part of the Valley View Church of Christ.

Abstract

A legacy is what a person is remembered for long after they are gone.  This lecture traces the trajectory of the apostle John’s life, from the first glimpses of John in the synoptic gospels, to his work in Acts, through his own memoirs, through his epistles, ending with some insights from Revelation and extra-biblical tradition.  This longitudinal study shows what time has proven John’s legacy to be and why you should care.
